ARTICLE 2: 20 April 2020
The birth of a child is one of the most life changing moments in a persons life. Giving birth can be stressful at the best of times, let alone in the middle of a nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. But some things just can't be rescheduled or put on hold.
Congratulations on the birth of your new baby
A mother can never be fully prepared for when it comes to giving birth, especially a first time birth as things can change by the minute.
Under Ministry of Health guidelines, hospitals are restricting visitors allowing only one person to attend a birth during Alert Level 4. This may be under review now as we prepare to move to Level 3. For the latest updates go to COVID-19 Alert Level 3
It is vital that everyone knows we are still under Alert Level 4, and all Alert Level 4 restrictions remain in place.
Your gorgeous wee baby deserves a short ceremony to welcome them into this remarkable world. Once you’re settled at home spend some time with family to discuss how you’d like to celebrate the arrival of your child once the restrictions on gatherings are lifted.
Your Baby Naming ceremony is an important occasion to celebrate family and life. Take a little time to celebrate the ritual of welcoming your child into your world with family and friends. Consider having something relaxed at home, in a park, on the beach, in fact anywhere you like once restrictions have lifted.
During the ceremony you can tell those gathered why and how you chose your baby’s name, what it means, their lineage from both side of the family. It can also be a time to introduce the Godparents or Guiding Parents, along with declarations of promises and commitments from other significant members of your circle of family and friends who will support your child throughout their life.
As part of your ritual you may want to include planting a tree or a brief reading or poem. The most important part is choosing the aspects that are special to you and your family. This new life is a joy – enjoy these moments.
